Hanover Highlands School serves approximately 470 students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Hanover Highlands has also been able to maintain a pre-k program which is getting our students ready for school at an early age!
Hanover Highlands benefits from having a diverse population. The school has a Spanish-English Dual Language program, which enhances the multicultural appreciation and acceptance that is evident at the school. In addition, we also have a multiage program across all grade levels for all of our students not enrolled in a dual-language classroom. Hanover Highlands is also a District 54 site that educates students with mental and physical impairments in self-contained classrooms.
We have implemented a college readiness program for all of our students and we were named as a No Excuses University. Each of our classrooms has adopted a college or university that their classrooms will represent for the entire year. We believe that all of our students can and will attend a college or university. Thus, we hold high expectations, not only of our students but also of ourselves, to ensure that our students are receiving the best academic instruction possible.
All children have access to District 54 Early Childhood Programs, which are clustered geographically in District 54. Hanover Highlands also has gifted resource services, although eligible children can also attend the District 54 gifted magnet school located at Campanelli.
Hanover Highlands School has 75 dedicated staff members. The 2010 School Improvement Plan targets the continual improvement of student achievement in reading and math while emphasizing high expectations
in all instructional areas for all students. In addition to a rigorous academic program, each student is provided daily opportunities for academic intervention and enrichment based on his specific needs. Students in non-dual language classrooms have the opportunity to receive Spanish language instruction as enrichment during the school day. Technology is used extensively as an instructional tool for all students.
In addition to high academic and behavioral standards, Hanover Highlands also offers the following student clubs, educational support programs and activities:
Partners Club, Huskie Service Club, Mileage Club, Folkloric Club, reading intervention programs, Rainbows, New Student Groups, Parent Education Events, Moms and Muffins/Dads and Donuts Morning Reading Programs, Special Olympics, KASPER after-school program, and instrumental music instruction for fifth- and sixth-grade students.
The Hanover Highlands PTA is an active organization that is visible at the school on a daily basis. The following are examples of PTA events and activities: Back go School socials, Fun Fair, Field Day, Nutrition Week, Hot Lunch days, Market Day, Sixth Grade End of the Year Celebration, family activity nights, cultural arts presentations, environmental awareness activities, and book fairs.
