Welcome to Dr. Amy Thompson – Our new Principal for the 2020-2021 School Year!

Dear Hanover Highlands community,

It is with great pleasure that I will become part of your school community for the 2020-2021 school year, and assume the position of the Hanover Highlands Elementary School principal on July 1, 2020. I am overwhelmed with excitement and thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children.

I was born, raised, and received most of my education in New York. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the State University of New York, a master’s degree in reading from C.W. Post Long Island University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the College of New Rochelle. I most recently graduated from DePaul University with a doctorate in educational leadership.

I started my career teaching second grade in the New York City public school system and continued teaching elementary students in fourth grade in Long Island, New York for over 12 years. I learned a great deal from my educational and teaching experiences in both urban and suburban environments.

Approximately 13 years ago, I moved to Chicago and was hired as an assistant principal at Palos South Middle School. After that I became the principal of Palos East Elementary School, and served in this role for 8 years as an administrator and leader of instruction. For the past 5 years, I have had the honor of leading Campanelli Elementary School in District 54 where I have formed strong community relationships with our students, staff and parents. With over 13 years of administrative experience and 25 years in education, I am looking forward to supporting Hanover Highlands’ school community in any way that I can.

I continue to seek challenges and professional growth opportunities.  I look forward to learning from the amazing school community at Hanover Highlands. The students, staff and parents are my priorities as we move into the 2020-2021 school year.

I look forward to collaborating with you on your child’s success in every aspect of the learning environment. My philosophy is that your child comes first. I am confident we will have an amazing school year! You are more than welcome to reach out at any time.

Thank you for all that you do and please let me know how we can best support your children and your efforts at home.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Amy Thompson, Ed.D.
