The Hanover Park Branch of the Schaumburg Township District Library will be providing free, nutritious meals for all children under 18 from noon – 2pm Mondays – Fridays, starting June 6 and ending August 12, 2022. We are located at 1266 Irving Park Road in Hanover Park. The Library has partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository again this year to be a summer meals distribution site. The program is intended to help end hunger in our community. Children who receive free and reduced-price meals at school often lack access to nutritious food during the summer. Summer meal sites aim to reach these children in a convenient neighborhood location. One thing that is different this year is that during the COVID shutdowns we were able to offer grab and go meal boxes, but the current federal summer meals program requires that children eat their meals on site at the library. Summer Meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.
