MAP Assessment
We will test kindergarten through eighth grade students using the computer-based MAP assessments tool from 8/25-9/5. The purpose of MAP Growth and MAP Reading Fluency (K-2) is to inform teachers of the immediate instructional needs of students. MAP results equip educators with key data to help personalize instruction and pinpoint individual student needs. Please note that MAP has updated their national norms in 2025 so you may see some variance in your students’ national percentile rank than in past MAP assessments. Individual classroom testing schedules will be forthcoming.
PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports)
PBIS is in full swing again this year at Hanover. We will continue to have monthly assemblies with our students to recognize outstanding character and teach our expectations. We will also highlight Commitment in September. Be on the lookout for student recognition from our staff and their peers!
Our goal is to teach students positive behaviors, so that all students can work in a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and conducive to maximum learning potential. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our school-wide structure for progressive consequences.
Progressive Discipline: Emphasis at Hanover Highlands is for students to practice self-discipline and accept more responsibility for their behavior. Behavior that is disruptive to the education process and infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. A consistent structure for progressive consequences is utilized across all locations in the school throughout the day including during arrival/dismissal, specials, acceleration periods, lunch, and recess.
As stated above, students displaying “Severe Clause” behavior will receive an immediate referral to the office and parents/guardians will be notified by the school administrator. Examples of “Severe Clause” behaviors would include: fighting; insubordination; serious verbal abuse or use of profanity or obscenity; acts that jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of another; repeated and willful behavior that constitutes disregard for the rules and regulations of the school; and chronic behaviors involving classroom disruptions or inappropriate language.
